EXPERIMENT1

Human as Individual

My culture probes kit is an activity kit given to participants to explore their relationship to their personal collections of objects. Through the activities, they will be asked to map out how they physically and mentally interact with the objects in order to gain insight into the understanding of the significance of preservation on an individual level.

Several questions I'm exploring through the cultural probe:

How do people choose what objects to preserve? Where did our desire for things come from?

Is their a hierarchy of preservation between objects? How does this hierarchy come up?

How could emotional attachment be evaluated?

How does objects reflect and structure human action and lives ? Do they prospect our future life?

How does the owning of objects help build our connection to others and the material world?

How does a object reflects and connect a person's past, present and future?

Ultimately, why does a thing matter?

Keywords: ownership, identity, relationship
